StorPool’s talks at the OpenInfra Summit Vancouver 2023

“A look into CI/CD for Cinder and Juju – how we built our vendor CI infra”, Peter Penchev

The OpenDev projects use the Zuul CI system to automatically run tests against series of commits proposed using a Gerrit code review system. The SoftwareFactory project provides an easy way to deploy a combination of Gerrit, Zuul, and Nodepool as a starting point for customizing the CI system for developing specific jobs for testing a vendor’s drivers, Juju charms, etc., using a vendor’s software or hardware stack. In this talk we shall describe how we made use of the existing jobs and configuration and what we needed to customize for the needs of the projects we want to test.

Speaker: Peter Penchev, Lead Developer, StorPool Storage

“I mostly think of myself as a software developer, although I have dabbled in systems and database administration, project/architecture design, etc. I have contributed to many open source / free software projects over the years: I was the first Bulgarian FreeBSD committer, but for the past 15 or so years I have focused more on my role as a Debian developer. At StorPool, I work both on our core distributed storage software and all kinds of supporting tools and infrastructure, integration with other systems, etc. I am the lead developer of the StorPool Cinder/Brick storage driver. Over the years, I have (as part of a team) taught various courses at Sofia University, e.g., “Network Security”, and “Practical Perl Programming”, and given guest lectures in others.”

“Eight Ways Traditional SAN Architecture is Failing at Scale”, Venko Moyankov

Mission-critical applications are the lifeblood of a business. When they are running at top speed, delivering high performance, reliability, data integrity, in an always-on environment businesses thrive and IT teams can, well, get to the real business at-hand. The traditional Storage Area Network (SAN), even with good arrays, is falling short on today’s IT demands whether you have a public, private, or hybrid cloud. Join us as we talk about the day-to-day challenges IT Storage and Server teams face with traditional SANs, share some stories we hear from our customers, and explore how software may just be the solution to move your business to the next level.
