DCIG Names StorPool in its Top 5 Modern SDS Block Storage Report

Recently, analyst firm DCIG released a report titled “2025-26 Top 5 Modern SDS Block Storage Solutions”. This report evaluated 21 different software-defined storage (SDS) solutions for block storage and they listed StorPool in their “Top 5” list.

DCIG noted that the SDS block solutions they evaluated have been optimized for deployment in Linux-centric, cloud-based computing environments. These vendors also support multiple storage devices including HDDs, SSDs, and NVMe. They also support standard IP block-based storage protocols, such as iSCSI and NVMe/TCP.

Requirements for Inclusion

DCIG noted three other criteria for these SDS solutions to be considered:

  • Management experience – Enterprises want to have the same storage management experience on both cloud and on-premises block storage.
  • VMware vSAN alternative – Since Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware, customers can no longer acquire VMware’s software-defined storage as a standalone product.
  • Cybersecurity framework – DCIG required all solutions evaluated to meet all five of the National Institute of Science and Technology’ (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework’s five categories: identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover.

DCIG also identified three additional features supported by all of the platforms they evaluated:

  • Ability to be deployed in a single physical data center
  • Web-based GUI management
  • 24x7x365 technical support with a 4-hour response time

DCIG also noted that there were nine other features supported by at least 85% of the platforms.  (The full details are in the report, which you can find using the link at the end of this post.)

Where StorPool Stands Out

DCIG noted several differentiators that set StorPool apart from other SDS block storage systems. These include:

  • A cloud-first approach to system management
  • Being architected for use in always-on cloud data centers
  • High performance – achieving 13.8 Million IOPs on a 12-node cluster
  • Ability to maintain extremely low latency even under high load
  • Our fully managed storage solution – StorPool provides managed services for monitoring and maintenance of the solution including patching, updating, and helping with hardware additions and refreshes.
