Namecheap Deployed StorPool’s Next-Generation Design to Improve Service Quality and Profit Margins

Namecheap, the world’s second-largest domain registrar and global hosting provider, selected StorPool‘s software-defined storage solution as part of a new IT infrastructure platform to increase the speed and reliability of Namecheap’s services, while streamlining their entire business and operating margins.

About the project

With more than 13 million domains managed and a robust roster of services, Namecheap is a trusted partner for businesses worldwide.

The struggle

NameCheap’s legacy architecture consisted of a fleet of bare-metal servers with local storage, which resulted in “noisy neighbor” issues where some users’ workloads consumed too much server resources. Also hardware failures had an impact on customer’s uptime and required increased attention from their staff to manage and fix. This led to service disruptions for other users and additional problems like single points of failure and downtimes during server upgrades.

Running like a hyperscaler

Wanting to build a next-generation hosting service with improved availability, reliability and efficiency Namecheap chose to deploy StorPool’s Highly-Available Shared Hosting (HASH) design, which virtualizes the entire environment and provides hyperscaler-like operations and efficiency.

This next-generation design is based on an automated, highly-available, hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) platform, providing higher quality of service, uptime and performance. It also increases operational efficiency and ultimately profitability for NameCheap.

The Outcomes

The hosting provider has reported a significant boost in performance and accomplished the key result they were expecting – increasing the density of VMs hosted per rack within the same power limits.

Namecheap was able to deploy 20% more servers in each rack and run 60% more applications per HCI cluster.

“We always strive to keep our customers’ data safe and secure,” said Max Semenyaka, Technical Operations Manager at Namecheap. “That is why we chose the StorPool solution, providing high performance combined with impressive fault tolerance and data availability rates.”

“We help companies building IT infrastructure deliver faster, better, and more cost-efficient services to their customers—so they can retain clients and win market share,” said Boyan Ivanov, CEO and co-founder of StorPool Storage. “At the same time, we enable them to optimize their entire IT operations, which directly boosts profit margins. Namecheap is a prime example of a leading vendor that’s ahead of the curve on both fronts.”
