The Challenge

Krystal was building Katapult, a virtual Infrastructure-as-a-Service platform designed for extreme performance and simplicity, and needed a fast, stable and scalable alternative to its OnApp platform with Integrated Storage. While reliable, Integrated Storage lacked instant scalability, such as resizing virtual drives on demand or expanding the cluster with new disks of any size without manual rebalancing, and its performance was limited and did not improve as the cluster grew.

The Solution

Krystal reviewed several SDS options as well as traditional SAN alternatives, and selected StorPool for its high performance, robust API, unique space-saving features and the extremely high level of data protection offered by triple data replication. Katapult now runs on several high-performance NVMe storage clusters powered by StorPool, giving Krystal a modern, flexible SDS foundation that keeps its promise of high availability and guaranteed data integrity.
